Surprise…Winter isn’t quite over yet! - 2/23/23

Just when we thought Spring was right around the corner, we got quite a surprise with a late snow storm. Since snow is pretty rare in the Pacific Northwest, the resulting commute took four hours and thankfully a day off the next day. Everything looks so pretty when covered with a fresh blanket so of course I had to get out for a walk to take it all in. I’ve never tried to paint a snow scene, but I was finding the blanket and the beautiful creek reflections so inspiring!

I love the textures on old weathered fences! I’ve only done fences a couple times…a charcoal landscape and a watercolor landscape. So I’m thinking more weathered fences need to be shown in future compositions.

The ‘Grande Dame’ of this particular park. I love Willow trees with their lacey leaves and beautifully textured trunks….Yes! Must paint!

Beautiful reflections and ripples on water. Very inspiring for the artist who loves landscapes!

After I got back from my winter wonderland walk and warmed up, to the painting table I went. I really wanted to practice snow and water reflections and this landscape came about pretty quickly. As an artist, I enjoy leaving paintings looking somewhat ‘unfinished’ so the viewer has to use their imagination to picture how the rest of the composition would look.
